The Lord Jesus as the Life and Light of the World
"The Feast of Lights originated with the cleansing of the Temple under
the Maccabees, and was observed for eight days beginning with the 25th
day of Kislev (December)."

Merril C. Tenney and Alexander Cruden, on "FEAST" p. 56. Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan Publishing House, 1983]
FR. ABE:
SO IT IS NOT TRUE THAT DECEMBER 25 IS
PAGAN BUT RATHER EVEN BEFORE THE BIRTH OF THE MESSIAH IT IS ALREADY A
FEAST OF THE TEMPLE AND OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD. THE EARLY CHRISTIANS WHO
WERE ALMOST ALL JEWS CELEBRATED THIS GREAT FEAST AS EXPRESSION OF THEIR
WORSHIP OF THE TRUE GOD WHO IS OUR LIGHT AND LIFE. THE EARLY CHRISTIANS
DECLARED THAT LIGHT AND LIFE AS NO OTHER BUT THE LORD JESUS:
John 1:4-5 [DRB] "In him was life: and the life was THE LIGHT OF MEN. And the light shineth in darkness: and the darkness did not comprehend it."
